DKW Sonderklasse 1001 convertible saloon, 1934

In the spring of 1933, Auto Union presented the DKW Sonderklasse 1001. The "large DKW" with rear-wheel drive had an extremely unconventional V4 2-stroke engine in which the fuel/air mixture was pumped into the cylinders by two charging pumps. Equally unconventional was the wooden unitary body, which was clad in artificial leather to protect it from the effects of adverse weather. The Sonderklasse 1001 was available above all as a two-door convertible saloon.
