The ZM or “Zschopau Model”, with an entirely new two-stroke engine and two-speed gearbox, was a genuine milestone in DKW‘s progress. Once again the company refrained from adopting familiar concepts but sought instead for new technical design features. The result was a compact, integrated engine and gearbox unit that simplified the design and occupied very little space.
