The Wanderer W 9 was the direct successor to the Type W 6. The 1.5-litre engine had been modified and now had overhead valves and a removable cylinder head. The modern valve arrangement allowed the rated engine speed to be increased from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm, in turn increasing the power output from 18 to 24 hp with the same bore and stroke. Apart from the open-top touring car version, the W 9 was also available as standard as a saloon.
