The Zschopauer Motorenwerke presented the most cost-effective German car to date at the Berlin Motor Show in 1931, the DKW Front. This compact car was in line with the difficult economic environment of the early 1930s. An outstanding new technical feature was front-wheel drive, which went into mass production for the first time with the DKW F 1. In total, over a quarter of a million units of all DKW Front model series (F 1 to F 8) were built at the Audi factory in Zwickau between 1931 and 1942.
