In mid-1929, the Wanderer factory gave up production of its 4-cylinder models in favour of the new 6-cylinder Type W 11. This single-model policy was intended to make car production as a whole more profitable. However, the crash on the New York Stock Exchange in October 1929 and the subsequent global economic crisis caused sales of large cars to collapse. Within a very short time, a new 30 hp 4-cylinder model had been developed that was launched in September 1930.
